Accessories Can Complete The Look Of A Communion Dress

STEPHANIE First Communion Dress

Stephanie First Communion Dress

To make a First Communion is a monumental moment in a Catholic’s life and one that is to be celebrated! Typically, most First Communions occur when a child is about eight years of age. This is the same age as my niece, Sierra, who is anticipating the arrival of her First Communion.

Since I have three boys, I figure the closest I am going to get to have a daughter of my own that I can do girly things with is going to be my niece. Also, I know how much of a budget my sister is on and so for Sierra’s communion gift, I asked if I could purchase her First Communion dress. However, my sister had already purchased the dress through My Special Place.com. She did mention though that she had yet to purchase any accessories, and would let me do that if I still wished to do so. Since I do not have many opportunities to buy girl clothing, I could not pass this up!

I decided to go and check out the dress that had been bought for Sierra from My Special Place.com. It was called the Stephanie First Communion Dress and it was gorgeous! It was simple, elegant, and classic with a white bow that was tied perfectly around the waist in the front.

I knew that Sierra was going to look like a sweet and innocent princess with it on. As I looked and studied the details of the dress, I could not contain myself when it came to pulling the whole look together through the use of various accessories. You name it and I looked at it: socks, purses, gloves, veils, jewelry, etc.

Finally, I decided that the Girls Bow Communion Gloves would help to bring attention to the bow on the dress.

Another perfect compliment to the bow on the dress is the precious Headband Bow First Communion Veil! Last but not least, was the Girl’s Communion Charm Bracelet. This particular bracelet is not only a great reminder of her First Communion, but can also act as a daily reminder of her faith and devotion to God! Now all I have to do is try to patiently await the day of Sierra’s First Communion, so I can surprise her with all of these beautiful accessories!

Calming First Communion Jitters

My husband and I took our three boys, their wives and the six grandchildren to Disney World last winter. We had a wonderful time. We knew that this trip would be magical especially for Anna who was eight years old at the time. She is very much a girly girl but is rather shy. She loves fancy dresses and princess stories. She was so excited to attend the Disney World Princess Breakfast. This is an event where you eat breakfast in Cinderella’s Castle. While you are eating, the various Disney princess characters walk around and talk with the children. They let you take pictures with the princesses and they sign autographs.

Anna looked forward to this event more so than any other thing we had planned at Disney World. She was excited the morning of the breakfast but was nervous about talking to the characters. She dressed up in a beautiful Cinderella costume for the event. It took a lot of coaxing to get Anna to go up to Cinderella for her autograph. But after a lot of nervous tears, Cinderella saw that she was having a hard time so she came over and talked privately to Anna. She told Anna that she should not be nervous because she looked so beautiful. Cinderella told her that she was so impressed that Anna dressed up for the special occasion and that it was an honor to have her as a guest at her castle. She asked Anna if she could take her picture and asked if she would sign her book of favorite guests. Anna was so happy after that. She was so surprised that Cinderella wanted something from her. It calmed all her fears.

This spring, Anna made her First Holy Communion. The day started out well. Anna was excited to once again dress up like a princess in her beautiful communion dress. She put on her ornate veil and her long white gloves and her fancy pearl white shoes. She looked just like a princess.

But once again, Anna became nervous and the tears began to flow once she arrived at church. I sat her on my lap and reminded her of our trip to Disney World and what Cinderella told her. I told her that God feels the same way today on her First Holy Communion. She should not be nervous because she looks so beautiful and God is so impressed that she dressed up for this special event. And God is so happy that she has come to His church today.  He wants her to give her the body and blood of Christ and come into her heart.

That did it! Anna stopped crying and she began to smile. The stress of all her preparation and the anticipations of this day were relieved. She went up with her class and received her First Holy Communion. The day was a great success.

First Communion Memories: Sharing My Faith with My Two Kids

I love sharing stories of my Children! I have two children, one boy who is 13 and my daughter who is 11. Both of my children have different personalities from each other yet I can remember each of their First Communions like it was yesterday.

My son was so nervous and had so many questions about making his First Holy Communion. One of his biggest fears was dropping the host and God being mad at him. I told him not to worry he would do fine and that accidents happen and that God could never be mad at him. On top of him having anxiety, he did not want to wear dress clothes–he wanted to wear a white t-shirt and a pair of jeans. I looked hard to find a comfortable boys suit for him. We ended up finding the perfect suit – one that he felt comfortable in it and I thought he looked absolutely handsome in. The day had finally come for his First Communion. He was both nervous yet excited at the same time. As soon as he put on his special suit, he saw how great he looked in the mirror, his confidence went up and I could see the anxiety fading from his face. After a few snapshots with the camera before we headed off to church, he was feeling good about himself and excited about making his First Holy Communion. Following the Communion ceremony, we had a gathering of family and friends. That day turned out to be a wonderful experience with wonderful memories that will last a lifetime for our family.

When my daughter made her Communion it was so very different! With her, she is very outgoing and it was all about the dress. We started looking the summer before her Holy Communion ceremony. We found her communion dress online while looking for her flower girl dress for her Aunt’s wedding. It was a bit more than she was expecting, but gorgeous and she looked like an angel in it. She never wanted to take it off!

At her celebration she was delighted to get communion gifts and cards and wanted to know why people gave presents to her for making a Sacrament. Her favorite gift was one she got from her godmother, my sister, it was our grandmother’s rosary and she still thinks it is the most beautiful thing she has ever seen.

We still belong to the same church that my entire family all made our sacraments at and that means a lot to me. I am so happy that I can carry on the same faith and family traditions that I grew up with and now my children are following those same traditions at the same church.

Preparing your Daughter for Communion

As communion classes near an end and ceremony preparations are made, the exciting time to choose the perfect communion dress arrives! One mom, Barbara, is doing just that–preparing her daughter, Grace, for one of the most important events in her Catholic life. But before she brought her daughter into the dress decision-making process, she made a quick checklist to ease her life a bit:

  1. Is the dress washable?
  2. What is the cost?
  3. Which accessories?
  4. What are the must-have qualities?
  5. What family traditions will we incorporate?

MySpecialPlace.com learns of Barbara and Grace’s final decisions in an interview:

Q. Which communion dress did you decide to go with?

A. “Grace chose the Mia dress because she loved how full and beautiful the skirt looks with all the cascading ruffles. Personally, I love how simple, yet elegant this dress looks! The style is clean and crisp, which makes it versatile to go with any veil, jewelry and accessories that we choose. The skirt is pretty elaborate, so I’m thinking it’ll be a dry clean item–which means less stress for me.”

Q. Which communion accessories will Grace be wearing?

A. “Grace is the kind of girl that loves sparkle and frills, so we chose the Aurora Borealis Communion Veil which matches the Mia First Communion dress almost to a tee. It allows her to express her shining personality, while keeping a very elegant look. I love this veil because it gives me piece of mind to know that Grace will look beautiful that day, without all the stress and fuss of an up-do. For her jewelry, Grace has already let me know she’s excited to wear the cross necklace that she received on her Baptism day from her godparents.”

Q. What was your favorite part in preparing Grace for her First Holy Communion?

A. “When your kids are born, they are so pure and innocent. It’s an incredible feeling to watch them receive the Eucharist for the first time, expressing their unity of their lives in Christ. I love that we have prepared for this ceremony together in ways that have meant so much to our family.”

Q. How will you make communion personal for your daughter?

A. “Grace has been looking forward to making her First Communion for a long time, and wants to be part of all the decision making that goes into planning hers. She has helped out in selecting her dress, what kind of veil she wants plus all of the other accessories that complete her ensemble – from the communion gloves down to her purse. It has been truly an enjoyable experience in having her help with the planning of this memorable celebration.”
